I recently picked up the Retro Fighters BattlerGC Pro controller, and I’m thoroughly impressed! The build quality is solid, and it feels great in hand—perfect for long gaming sessions. What really stands out is how seamlessly it works with the Nintendo Switch. The setup was a breeze, and the controller performed great across different games. It’s a fantastic modern upgrade for fans of the GameCube style. That said, the mapping of B to P1 does not work in Tears of the Kingdom, and I wish I could do the firmware upgrade, but I only have a Mac and gaming systems, not a PC.

BEAUTIFUL controller! I love it so much that I will be buying another next month. It was a pleasant surprise to see that it's also compatible with Switch. Your controllers go beyond my expectations and I hope to continue to do business with you guys in the future.

So I was interested in this controller, because I wanted to practice instant reverse back-airs in Smash Ultimate. I did not want to practice this technique with a Gamecube controller, because it would require me to map the GC controller's left trigger to jump. I only use the GC controller's left trigger for shield after years of practice, and so the BattlerGC Pro presented a solution for me to map its unique left shoulder button to jump. This has worked out perfectly for Smash. I am very happy to now practice instant reverse back-airs with a GC-styled controller, because the only other alternative was to use a normal Pro controller. I absolutely cannot use a normal Pro controller for Smash, and so the BattlerGC Pro is helping me tremendously with my Roy game. This controller is also phenomenal as a solution to another problem. Super Mario 3D All Stars does not allow GC controllers to use the left trigger for ground pounds in Super Mario Sunshine. However, 3D All Stars does allow a normal Pro controller to use its left trigger for ground pounds. Since the Switch recognizes the BattlerGC Pro as a normal Pro controller, Super Mario Sunshine is now playable with it as a GC-styled controller. Classic left trigger ground pounds with a GC controller are only possible with the BattlerGC Pro, and it feels perfect. I tried this controller out with Mario Kart 8 as well. The GC-styled buttons are actually better than a normal Pro controller, because they allow me to accelerate with "A" and then shift my thumb onto "X" to look behind me much more easily. Looking behind oneself with a normal Pro controller is too difficult on the normal Pro controller, and so the BattlerGC Pro solves yet another problem. Furthermore, the controller works perfectly on Mario Odyssey and Cave Story+ as well. Mario Odyssey feels like it was made for it, and Cave Story+ is absolutely playable with this controller's Pro-styled Dpad. An original GC controller's Dpad is virtually useless for a precision platformer such as Cave Story, and so this controller pulls double duty as a better GC controller and suitable platformer controller to lessen one's reliance on multiple controllers. Finally, the controller connects perfectly to my Android phone for Paper Mario: TTYD emulation on Dolphin. It works perfectly. And Paper Mario Android emulation via Mupen also works perfectly. I just purchased another crystal edition right now, because this has firmly replaced the Gamecube controller for my uses. I love it.

I was looking for a replacement for my Gamecube controller for a long time, as I love the design for platform fighters (currently Rivals of Aether 2). However I didn't like that it needed a big adapter, was only wired, and lacked the buttons that modern controllers have. I've tried third-party GC controllers in the past and they just all felt wrong in terms of feeling cheap or just SOMETHING was off. I was worried it was going to be the case with the BattlerGC Pro, but I'm very happy to say that isn't true. Upon first using it, it felt a bit strange because the shape is very different from a GC controller, but the button layout is the same. However I did notice instantly that it felt a LOT more comfortable to use, as the GC controller somewhat digs into my fingers. I next checked out the two sticks, and honestly they are INCREDIBLY close to the original. The C-stick in particular feels pretty much identical to the original, and that mattered to me a lot because that's key to what makes this controller style feel good for platform fighters. The move stick is very slightly less stiff than the original, which I actually prefer because it feels less restrictive and lets me do my inputs a little bit faster. The face buttons feel great, the plastic is again very close to the original, and they feel good to press. The d-pad is obviously very different, and that was a smart decision because I don't think anyone really enjoyed the Gamecube controller's d-pad, so good job there. This controller just feels very comfortable to use, and more importantly, feels competitive. I'm very happy to know I can have the layout I love, with modern convenience and technology. Well done Retro Fighters!

I was looking for a quality controller that would last me a long time. Most 3rd party GCCs always felt cheap or off, but that isnt the case for this!

My main gripes with it were mostly personal, it likely won’t be an issue for other people due to how I hold the thing

When playing platform fighters, my finger was getting pinched by the trigger when I pressed down. I also accidentally pressed the back flipper pads quite often, but not a huge deal since I don’t have them assigned to anything. They’re nice to have in other games that don’t require alot of fast inputs.

Cstick was a little far away as well, but I also have really small hands, and it hasn’t been too much of an issue.

As a whole all the buttons feel really nice and the sticks were both great compared to my old GCC, which has alot of snapback at this point. Triggers feel reeeeally nice and responsive, and have a good click to them. In general I’d say it feels closest to a switch pro controller just with GC face layout & octo gate, which is awesome!

Even tho I dont use it for rivals anymore, it’s my go to controller for literally anything else right now, esp anything on my switch

I might do a touch of modding to it so I can add a little grip to the back, if I can fix the finger pinching i would greatly prefer it to my GCC for platform fighters. Or maybe I’ll just try to change up my grip haha.

Really quality controller, nice work folks!

This is an update. I have confirmed!!! That this controller does work with the PS3 system!!! But you must use Retro Fighters Wireless Defender USB dongle for it to connect. I thankful own several Wireless Defender controllers from Retrofighters so I was able to fully test this out and it does work nearly flawlessly with the PS3 console!!!! Not expected but yep it sure does!! An added extra bonus. And it works on all the PS3 games I have tried 26 games and counting so far. I have not tried out my entire PS3 collection but so far it’s working and working good with no lag or connection issues of any kind. I completely understand this is a Nintendo GameCube controller first and foremost (Nintendo switch and PC as well). But it’s nice to know it works for A Sony system as well. No worries I am a Nintendo GameCube/Nintendo switch lover first. But I do play other systems as well. And it’s good to know I now have a good Hall Effect wireless controller for the PS3 as well. Again you must use the USB dongle from Retrofighters Defender wireless controller (The one that it’s for PS1….PS2….PS3). And it will work!!. If someone can confirm this with me I would greatly appreciate it. If not still a very good controller. Great work Retrofighters!!!.

It does exactly what I wished for: a wireless replacement of NGC and Dolphin.

It’s a light pad but substantial: it does feel like the quality product that it is.
The sticks feel great and get close to the original pad’s precision. Both clicking analogue triggers are also a great improvement from the non-pro model, packing a good travel that is very satisfying to fully press.
    I love it.

I have zero problems using it on an NGC, a Mac, or a PC when using a 2.4g dongle or in BT—it just works.
If you buy this for Dolphin emulation, just connect the GameCube adapter in the controller tap, and it will be identified as a real controller with wireless and analogue triggers, working as designed in games like Twin Snakes or Sunshine. No configurations are needed.

No other third-party wireless controller NGC focused gets this close and, for me, even replaces the Wavebird, which has aged gracefully but has, indeed, aged.

I’ll add that the customer support was nice enough to reply, providing me with a working tracking and refunding me the shipment since the package was a bit late.
