Thank you sooo much Retro Fighters for making the Hunter. The controller is very comfortable and feels natural in the hands. The build quality, buttons, sticks are all top-notch. The green instantly takes me back to my teen years. The positive experience I've had with the controller has actually inspired me to get a modded Xbox so I can play even more games with it, its THAT good. If I get back into PlayStation or any other retro collecting I know where I'm going for a controller for sure

Amazing controller. I can’t believe it took so long to finally get a great aftermarket controller for the Xbox. With the addition of modern refinements, it’s not the cheap garbage we used to get.

Don’t forget to hit the small reset button underneath it for first pairing. This controller does everything promised, and I look forward to purchasing another soon so me and my kid can stop fighting over who gets to use it.

The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars rather than 5 is because the face buttons (Y,X,A,B) seem to have a bit of a deadzone, meaning if you push those buttons in very lightly, the input is not detected. This may be bothersome for others but it’s not SUPER noticeable and I’m used to bottoming out my buttons so I don’t really notice it. The buttons are analog and they do not feel mushy, they feel pretty nice.
The D-pad feels amazing; it has a tactile bump that almost reminds me of the Xbox One d-pad, but not as clicky. It’s like if the Xbox 360 d-pad wasn’t mushy. The d-pad on this controller is one of my favorite for any Xbox controller.
The Back/Pause buttons are in the middle, which I prefer, and I like that you have the option to keep using the black/white buttons or just use the bumpers.
The resistance in the triggers is nice too and doesn’t feel super cheap.
Overall, I would recommend this controller for someone who wants a nice wireless controller, and for someone who wants a controller that can actually fit in your hands and feel comfortable to use, unlike the native OG Xbox controllers which are very bulky.

Everything about this controller is great, but it currently has a serious issue that I’m hoping is addressed soon in a firmware update. When using the controller on PC (it might occur on an Xbox as well, but I do not have one to test) the diagonals on the left thumbstick will develop an insane deadzone over the course of play. I saw a few people on reddit having the same issue and one of them noted that resetting the controller fixes it. This is true, but the issue comes back within 5-10 minutes of play. For reference, I have a defender (I even tried using the usb dongle on the hunter to see if that would help) and this issue is not present at all on that controller. Otherwise, I was already a fan of the defender and this controller would be better in everyway (especially comfort, the grooved back and triggers are great), but with the thumbstick issue I’m not going to be using the controller much since its a little bothersome remembering to press the reset button every 5 minutes or so. I’ll certainly update this review to a 5/5 if a firmware update is released to address this issue.
